Launch ramps and pickup areas

• El Dorado Beach boat ramp: California-side day-use launch fee is $17 per day. Source
• Sand Harbor: Nevada-side launch fee is $20 per day for Nevada-registered vehicles and $25 for non-Nevada vehicles. Source
• Lake Forest boat ramp: California-side launch fee is $20 per day for residents and $75 for non-residents.

Rules and boater card

• Aquatic invasive species inspection: Every unsealed motorized boat needs an AIS inspection before entering Lake Tahoe. Source
• AIS single inspection fee: The single-inspection fee is $65 for a boat up to 17 feet, rising to $95 above that length. Source
• California Boater Card: California requires a boater card for every operator, with a minimum operating age of 16, or 12 to 15 with a supervising adult aboard. Source
• Nevada boater education card: Nevada requires a boater education card for anyone born on or after January 1, 1983.

Best time to go

Lake Forest's peak season runs May 27 to September 7 on the California side. Sand Harbor takes day-use reservations May 15 through September 30 on the Nevada side. The lake's warmest annual average surface temperature on record is 53.29 degrees Fahrenheit, set in 2015.
